Infographics – what they are, where to use them and why you should
What they are: An infographic (or infograph) is simply a term used for information that is depicted in a visual, graphical way.
Similarly to catalogues, which are necessary for retail driven companies to showcase the products they sell, infographics are a great way to showcase services and processes in an “at a glance” manner.
Here is an example of an infographic that illustrates how to use social media for business:
Why you should: Here are the top 5 reasons your organization should be using infographics.
- One infographic can take the place of dozen power point slides or a similar number of written pages of information
- They are quick and easy to understand
- They can be used on image and photo based social media channels that written copy cannot
- They appeal to your visual learning based customers (approx. 1/3)
- They provide an easy visual training tool for staff
Where to use them: Because infographs may be used anywhere images would ordinarily be used, service-based organizations are now able to join the more visually-based social media platforms like Pinterst and Instagram. And because they contain a myriad of information, your infograpics can be used in many other places too. Here are just a few of the many ways to utilize your infographs:
- On a blog post
- On your visual (image based) social networks, including: Pinterest, Instagram, Flickr, Photobucket
- Across other social media platforms, including: Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Tumblr, Stumbleupon, and others
- As part of your sales and marketing toolkit
- Print, laminate and hang them on your walls (or your customers’ walls)
